Success/failure rates:
Of the roughly 40% of Americans who make New Years resolutions, by the end of the year only about 10% feel they are successful in keeping them.
Under 15% of people who set resolutions are successful even though more than 50% of the participants were confident of success at the beginning.
Statistically;
After week 1, 75% of participants are successful.
After two weeks, the number drops to 71%.
After 1 month, the number drops again to 64%.
At the 6 month mark, 46% of people who make a resolution are still successful in keeping it.
Reasons for failure:
-Unrealistic goals
-Not tracking progress
-Setting too many resolutions
-Not asking for help or for professional advice
Reasons for success:
-Don't be overly ambitious, be realistic
-Set concrete actions needed to reach the goal
-Plan interim steps toward the overall target
-Make your resolution known to your support team
-Ask for assistance from a professional
Many Trainers and Coaches offer complimentary consultations throughout the year. Never be afraid to ask questions. If you're considering hiring a Coach or a Trainer, interview them! Make sure you are comfortable with them and that they are knowledgeable in the area of your specific goal.
Most important, success or failure is never the end! Set new goals, start over, learn from previous actions and enlist help. Especially at the goal setting stage!!! Most Trainers and Coaches are adept at helping you set SMART goals. Even if you hire a coach for 1 hour and do nothing more than "chalk talk" you are planning a way forward and you are taking steps towards your success!
